How to create a Template in Word document

A document that has previously been prepared and has pre-made formatting options, such as macros, headers and footers, custom dictionaries, layouts, graphics, and AutoText entries, is known as a template.

When writing a document with recurring material and structure, using a template might help you save time.

Create a template in Word document

The simplest way to build a template in a Word document is to follow the steps listed below.

Step 1: Open the Word document.

Step 2: Go to the File tab on the Ribbon and click on the new option.



Step 3: Click on the Blank document.



Step 4: Fill in the blanks with the information you want to use as a template in the future.



Save Microsoft Word Template

You can save the template you make in Microsoft Word for future use.

In Microsoft Word, you can save Microsoft Word Template as a .dot, .dot, or .dot file format.

To save the template in Microsoft Word, follow the steps below -

1. Open the Word document where you made the template.

2. Select the File tab from the Ribbon. On the screen, a selection of options will display; select Save As.


3. Browse the location where you want to save a file. Select the Save as type from the drop-down menu. Select Word Template (*.dot) and click on the Save button at the bottom of the screen.



You can now see that your Word template has been saved in the Word document.

Edit the Word Template

Once you've created the Template in Microsoft Word, you can tweak it to suit your needs and store it for future, similar Word documents.

The following are the simplest methods for editing the Word Template:

 Step 1: Navigate to the File tab in the upper left corner of the Word document and click the Open button.



Step 2: On the screen, an Open dialogue box will appear. Browse the location where you save an earlier created template and click on the Open button at the bottom of the screen.


Step 3: Make the adjustments you want to your template.




Step 4: Once you've made all of the changes you want to your template, save and close it.

 

Use Microsoft Word Template

Microsoft Word also includes Word templates that you can use on your Word project.

To utilise a Microsoft Word template, perform these steps:

Step 1: Open the new Word document.

Step 2: On the Ribbon, select the File tab. A File menu options will appear on the screen. Click on the New.



Step 3: An Available Templates window appears. Click on the Personal.



Step 4: The screen displays a list of Word templates. Choose and double-click the template you want to use.

Now, you can see that the selected template is added to the Word document.
