How to switch a Microsoft Word document's language

Microsoft Word includes a function that allows you to change the language of your current Word documents to another language.

 

To change the language in a Microsoft Word document, use one of the following methods:

 

Method 1: Using the Review tab on the Ribbon

This is the simplest and quickest way to change the language of a Microsoft Word document with a few mouse clicks –

 

Step 1: Open the new or current Word document.

Step 2: On the Ribbon, go to the Review tab and select the drop-down icon for the Language in the Language group.



Step 3: A small Language drop-down menu will appear on the screen. Click on the Set Proofing Language option.



Step 4: On the screen, a language dialogue box will open; select your preferred language and click the OK button.




Your preferred language will be applied to your Microsoft Word document once you click the OK button.

 

Method 2: Using Windows

 

Follow the below steps to change the language using Windows –

 

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Word document.

Step 2: Select the File tab in the top left corner of the document. A File menu options will appear on the screen in which click on the Options.


 


Step 3: On the screen, a Word Options dialogue box will open. From the left pane, select the Language option.



Step 4: A Set the Office Language Preferences window appears, in which you select the language and click the Set as Default button.



Step 5: Choose Display and Help Languages.



Step 6: Click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen. Set the Office Language Preferences window will close, and your desired language will apply to the Word document.
