How to insert a Watermark in Word

A watermark is an image that appears behind the text in a Word document. Watermarking allows us to identify the manufacturer or brand to which the papers are linked.

 

Microsoft Watermark's defaults are: Confidential (both horizontal and diagonal) Do Not Copy (both Horizontal and Diagonal), Urgent, and ASAP are all terms that should be avoided.

Use these procedures to add a watermark to a Word document:

Step 1: Open or create a fresh Word document in which to place a Watermark.

Step 2: On the Ribbon, navigate to the Page Layout tab and select the Watermark option in the Page Background section.



Step 3: The screen will display the window that follows. Select the Watermark that you want to insert in the Word document.


The screenshot below shows that a Watermark is inserted in the Word document.



Custom Watermark

Custom watermarks can be created and inserted after the text in Microsoft Word.

 There are two sorts of custom watermarks accessible in Microsoft Word:


  •   Text watermark
  •   Picture watermark

Insert a Text watermark in Word

The actions listed below should be followed in order to add a text watermark.

Step 1: Open the Word document.

Step 2: On the Insert tab of the ribbon, select the Watermark option under Page Background.

Step 3: The screen will display the window that follows. Click on the Custom Watermark option.

 


Step 4: A dialogue box for printing a watermark will show up on the screen. Select the Text watermark radio button and then do the following:

 

Select the Language: Choose the language for the Watermark from the drop-down option.

Text: Enter the text you want to use as a watermark in the document.

Font: From the font drop-down menu, select the typeface to which you want to add a Watermark.

Size: Select the size for the Watermark.

Colour: Choose the colour of the text you want to include in the Watermark. 

Layout: For the Watermark, select either Diagonal or Horizontal.

When you're finished, click the OK button at the bottom of the screen.




The screenshot below shows that a custom Watermark is inserted in the Word document.


Insert a Picture Watermark

Microsoft Word not only lets you include a watermark within the text, but it also lets you insert a watermark as an image. A watermark on a photograph can be a company logo or a simple appealing image.


To insert a photo watermark, follow the instructions below:


Step 1: Open the Word document.

Step 2: Select the Watermark option from the page layout menu.

Step 3: A window comes on the screen; click the Custom Watermark button.

Step 4: A Printed Watermark dialog box will appear on the screen. Click on the Picture watermark radio button, click on the Select Picture button to browse the image that you want to insert and click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen.

 



The screenshot below shows that picture watermarks in inserted in the Word document.



Remove a Watermark

There are the following steps to remove a watermark -

Step 1: Open the Word document.

Step 2: On the ribbon, go to the page layout tab and select the Watermark option in the Paragraph section.

Step 3: On the screen, click the Remove Watermark option to bring up the following box.
